I graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a concentration in clinical counseling and a minor in criminology in May of 2024. With a strong calling to continue my journey in helping others, I began the Master of Counseling and Career Development program at CSU specializing in clinical mental health counseling, graduating in May of 2026.
While my work experience in this field has been brief, it has been incredibly impactful for my education and understanding of the counseling field. In my undergraduate education, I was an intern at a counseling group practice that helped me gain an understanding of what it looks like to work with clients. This experience allowed me to gain empathy for the clients striving towards their goals, and also the counselors supporting one another to ensure they are able to give their clients the best support within their ability.
My firsthand clinical experience has been completed in my clinical practicum at CSU, which strengthened my understanding of theory and my approach towards helping my clients on their journey of healing. Each session gave me a better understanding of how to create an open-minded approach to helping the client gain confidence in their ability to work towards meeting their goals in a way that was unique to them.
When starting the counseling journey, a client might be facing various emotions; excitement, fear, something in between, or a mix of it all. My approach to counseling is following the client’s lead and meeting them where they are with curiosity and understanding. Coming into session with gratitude for my client’s vulnerability and willingness to talk about difficult subjects is at the forefront. As a counselor I am ready to walk alongside my client on the healing journey encouraging and celebrating triumphs but also challenging my clients to continue the journey through the difficulties. As I develop as a counselor, I am drawn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions and techniques but ultimately identify most closely with a Person-Centered Approach.
In my free time I enjoy watching reality TV, crocheting, and listening to music. Baking cookies and bread is one of my favorite activities when I have a bit of extra time! I am also a cat mom to Dugg and Kraig and I love spending time with my friends and family.
