I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English from Brigham Young University over 23 years ago while expecting my first child. After pushing pause on my education to be a full-time mom, I made a huge career pivot in 2023, moving to Colorado to pursue my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado State University. Although I don’t fit the mold of most graduate students, I consider this of particular advantage. I have had life experiences that could never have been gained otherwise that give me a unique perspective and a singular passion to work in a field that devotes itself to helping others.
Over the years, I’ve been drawn to experiences and jobs that strengthened the innate desire within me to empower others to heal and thrive. This has included working as a volunteer for a county Crisis line, as an educator on a school district behavior support team, as a paraprofessional in an Autism unit, and as a trauma-informed manager and caregiver for at-risk youth at a residential treatment center. Most recently, I completed my clinical practicum at CSU, gaining invaluable knowledge and skills. While still a work in progress, my developing proficiency to counsel others toward strength and authenticity is in my bones. This work lights me up!
I believe that as a client, you are the captain of your ship and the master of your soul. Growth and healing occur when we collaboratively build a therapeutic relationship that balances empathy and warmth with accountability and boundaries. I will always show up with a heart of peace and kindness AND I will also challenge and push you to create a better you and a life you love. I’m a huge fan of Brene Brown’s advocacy for courage and vulnerability, Glennon Doyle’s Untamed, and the principles of Internal Family Systems, embracing the belief that we have no bad parts and can guide ourselves with confidence, curiosity, compassion, creativity, and connection. I am uniquely positioned to help clients navigate major life transitions, relational problems, divorce, parenting challenges, complicated grief and loss, addiction, disordered eating, religious trauma, self-abandonment, and overall feelings of being suck.
I’m a single mom of five fabulous humans and a cat mom to two rescues, Winnie and Rue. When I don’t have my head in the books for school (or fun), I’m outside with my kids on the hiking trails, in the water, or on bikes! I love to cook and eat (in another life I was a professional caterer), and enjoy anything post-apocalyptic (bonus points for zombies or dragons!), mountains, music, and long, wandering chats with friends over coffee or wine.
